• Recovery Word Document on U Disk

    • This is a typical recovery case of lost document on U disk. A customer directly opened a cryptographic word document (over 300K) to edit. When he saved it, the system said there was no way to save. Then the U disk symbol disappeared. After plugging U disk again, he found all files still existed but the word document. Though he could find it out using several data recovery software, he was unable to open it.

    • After analyzing, we used “Deleted File Recovery”, one option of our data recovery master software, to scan this U disk. Then we saw a document with the same name as the lost one. There was a little red mark “x” on the document which was in listview. The mark meant that the document had been deleted. It couldn’t be opened even if it was recovered. Furthermore, it was difficult to be repaired because it had a code. However, when we planed to give up, we found a list of “the lost document” in the left folder view with two documents (with normal icon) in it. The size of them was similar to that of the original deleted document as the customer said, but the two icons didn’t have the red mark “x”. So we recovered both of them and changed their extension to doc type. Then a entering-password pop-up window displayed. After the customer entering the password, the document was opened normally within the proper content. It turns out that the two documents were saved by him in two versions at different time.
    • The recovery case shows that U disk is unstable. The Web drops when we save the document, the record of the document will be damaged, so we can’t see it in the browser and data recovery software.
    • However,in the file associate table (FAT), the assignment record of Sectors per cluster still exists. Our data recovery master examined the file record and listed the two files (with no file name), and opened them through the files recovered by cluster Chain of the file associate table. If FAT and FAT32 partition present the list of “lost files”, all files in it are filename-lost, but still exist in FAT. The practical function can recover many files, though they are regarded unrecovered or discontinuous placing.
    • Inexplicably, when U disk loses files and you can’t recover them in many ways, we suggest that you should try to recover data through FAT. We will tell you a simple way in the following. First, you should detect the used space of U disk. Suppose that K megabyte has been used. Second, you should click on CTRL+A to select all folders and files, and right-click on them to choose the menu “Property”. Third, you should detect the total capacity of the files and suppose it is “L”. Fourth, you should compare K and L. If they have a big gap, the lost file recovery may exist in FAT. (The data recovery master software supplies the function that the file can be recovered from FAT.)

  • Friendly tips: Please do not write new files into a partition to be recovered, do not format a partition or repartition it and do not recover data into a partition to be recovered to avoid a secondary data damage. Please download our software onto a partition or disk not to be recovered before performing recovery operations
